The nonprofit, Revive & Restore, will be funding a fresh initiative to preserve tissue samples from one-quarter of all threatened and endangered mammal species in the USA. Only 14% of the 1700 USA endangered species have already been cryopreserved. Biologists from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will collect the samples; the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and cloning company, ViaGen Pets & Equine will perform the cryopreservation, genome sequencing, and cell line creation.
